NEO Ireland : the Network for Event Organisers in Ireland
Welcome!

Hi there,
At the end of this month, I'll have been working 6 months in NEO yet it feels like I've worked nowhere else. These are really exciting times for the events industry with only 5 weeks to go until we have to submit our final application to Skillnets and an upcoming fund raiser that is bound to bring out the fun. There is still time to get involved, so give us a call!

Events Industry Skillnet: In Dublin

It was an absolutely gorgeous day on Wednesday 8th August and the NEO team were out in force in the Clarion Hotel IFSC to host the Dublin Briefing Session for the Events Industry Skillnet. Honor Byrne and the events team from the Clarion were generous hosts and even treated us to complimentary strawberries and cream. Needless to say, I was stuffed by the end of the night, even when they brought out the KitKats and Crunchies...

There is still a chance to become a part of the skillnet by filling out our Training Needs Analysis and telling us what training you would like to see. For more information, contact Paul.

Michael Walsh (Club Managers Association) and Lorna Murphy (Hireall Event & Party Hire)

We were not there just for the food though. We had some important information about our skillnets application that we needed to impart. We were very lucky to have Michael Walsh (Club Managers Association) to come down and tell us all about his experiences with running a skillnet programme. Michaels input was invaluable and we are very grateful for the time he put in.

We are also very lucky to have a new steering committee member in Lorna Murphy of Hireall- Event & Party Hire.

Here is a sample list of some of the courses that we came up with, if you think that any of these would benefit you, let us know:

  • Production Management (incl. AV, Catering, Facilities Set Up)
  • Risk Assessment and Emergency Management
  • PR & Media Skills
  • Writing Winning Business Proposals, Bids and Tenders
  • Successful Networking
  • Email Etiquette
  • Negotiating Skills
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Familiarisation with Ireland for non-Irish Staff
  • Project Management
  • Event Design (e.g. event theming, concept development)
  • Event Planning (e.g. planning, budgeting, scheduling)
  • Creative Thinking Techniques
  • Managing Volunteers
  • Overview on Legal & Regulatory Issues for the Events Industry
  • Managing Online Meetings
  • Using Podcasts, Blogging and Videocasts

We did have an unfortunate setback a few weeks ago. Due to low numbers we had to cancel our Sligo Briefing Session in the Clarion Hotel Sligo. This was the last thing we wanted as there are a huge number of events run in the west that could benefit from the training that Skillnets could provide and it is unfortunate that we couldn't make it there. However, we would like to say a huge thank you to Yvonne Rochford and her team in the Clarion Sligo for being so supportive. Also, we have to say thanks to Michelle Baily (Neo member and a guest speaker at our Feb. event) and Rebecca Stevens (CEO Sligo Chamber of Commerce) for all their help on that event.
