NEO Ireland : the Network for Event Organisers in Ireland
Around the Town
Conor had his first NEO Ireland outing at Surprise and Delight Them! in DIT Cathal Brugha St - see below. I got to go to the TourismNET/Fáilte Ireland National Networking Conference. We both enjoyed meeting old friends and finding new ones at Tricia Murphy's Salon and I got sent around in a swanky car on International Women's day!

NEO Ireland Surprise & Delight Them

Surprise and Delight Them was the NEO Ireland February networking evening on the 20th February. Our hosts, DIT provided a fantastic venue with yum yum food. Though it did look like it was for display only, V well done to those involved. And the results are in!

Thank you to all that completed the feedback form, I’m happy to say we received only positive comments about the event, which is always a relief. There was a fantastic turn out of 83% members and 17% non-members. It’s great to see the non-members attend; get a taste for NEO and then we’ll drag you in! A whopping 83% thought that the event met their expectations, which is high praise indeed, big shout out to Michelle for surprising and even delighting those present.
And an amazing 92% of you said you’d come back to another NEO event, and we couldn’t be happier to have you all there!

We got some fantastic ideas off the membership base which is the best place to get them from and we hope to implement them in the near future. Thanks again to those who attended, to Michele Baily and particularly to Lucy Horan, Dr Sheila Flanagan and the students in Events Management in DIT. We’ll see you all again soon…. Promise!

TourismNET/Fáilte Ireland National Networking Conference

We send a huge farewell and very best wishes to Joanne and Gillian at TourismNET as the first two years of what has been a rip roaring success comes to a close. We've had the pleasure of attending a number of the TourismNET seminars, and of meeting many of the particpants on the programme. We'll miss you!

In the meantime, Joanne & Gillian kindly invited me to the TourismNET/Fáilte Ireland National Networking Conference in the Lyrath Estate in Kilkenny. I've blogged a little bit about it on the Events Day Blog [eventsdayconference.blogspot.com] - as according to one of my sources, a blog is the place to have your little rants... but the conference itself was excellent.

I really really enjoyed the session with Klaus Kobjoll of the Hotel Schindlerhof. An amazing amount of energy, cojones, humour and bright ideas. If you get the chance to see him speak anywhere, jump at it. It will be well worth it. I hope we can afford him next year...

The TiG Simply Networking Salon

I'm sure you all know by now what a huge fan I am of Tricia Murphy. A more genuine, funny, open and kind person than Tricia would be hard to find. Tricia's networking salons are full of all sorts of people from all sorts of backgrounds - from her brother [a musician, purple penguin] to her dentist [I haven't actually met him] to the CEO of the Small Firms Association [Patricia Callan was there, in full flight]. It's always hard to leave, harder still when you meet old friends there as well - like Anna Fitzgerald, Gillian Fullerton, Barbara & Jack all the way down from Belfast.

Last night, Tricia had Leanne Papaioannou, current President of Network Dublin, as a guest speaker. Leanne did a very stirring presentation on the value of word of mouth networking, using the HOG story as an example. Leanne is also founder & MD of Chilli Pepper Marketing [hot tips for cool people] and if you want an example of a really cool and excellent website - visit hers. I'm green. www.chillipepper.ie

You may also be interested in attending Tricia's one day Networking Workshop. The next one is coming up on Tuesday March 20th. I imagine it's pretty full up by now - but no harm in giving Tricia a call on 01 406 9517, as you may be lucky.

Treat of the Week!

Triple treat, really - an opportunity to stand up and speak about myself for 20 minutes to a group of senior female executives on International Womens Day [only kidding, I got to speak about networking]. An afternoon away from the phone and hustle and bustle of the office. And, biggest of all, my own car and driver for the afternoon and evening. Now you know what it takes to make me happy! It was a REALLY swanky car though...
