NEO Ireland : the Network for Event Organisers in Ireland
Welcome!

We've officially entered the festive season and we have a real treat for you this month. Our first annual NEO Christmas debate - Are You Crackers? We all love a good debacle, and this is going to be one for the books. We're also delighted to reveal the Podcasts from the Fifth P in Event Marketing; to introduce you to Sigrid, our new NEO Network Manager; to give you a look at the DIT Event Management Students who are looking for placements and to let you know about Absolutely Fabulous 07 - Events as a Career seminar.

Are you Crackers? Event Managers are Born

A few weeks ago Sarah attended a focus group in DIT and ended up taking opposing positions on the subject of Events Management Degree courses with Padraig Gilligan of Ovation-MCI. Sarah came back to the office all riled up and excited about the possibility of a debate in the future as suggested by Padraig. Well, we have not made anyone wait too long because on the 10th December, in The Vaults, IFSC we will be hosting:

Are you Crackers?

We're really looking forward to this debate - and we hope to see you all there. You can have your say on our pre-debate website. Let us know what you think and give us any ammunition you can! and you can book your place at the debate event site.

5th P Podcasts

For those of you that missed our last event (the 5th P in Event Marketing, speaker Sarah Carroll of eventznet.ie) at the Marketing Expo, we have decided to bring the event to you! A part of the networking after the formal presentation was the guests giving their top tips for participation at events. We recorded it all onto a fancy recorder and Joanne Ballesty of Pictaural then took all the content and edited it into a series of small podcasts which are now available online. Pictaural has developed a brilliant online podcasting system, which I know will be in huge demand over the coming months as we all look to get our guests participating before and after our events. Thanks Joanne! You'll also find the podcasts from Events Day 07 in the same package.

Welcome to Sigrid!
Sigrid Barany

If you've been reading the small print, you'll know that I have a new role at NEO Ireland – I'm now the Networking Manager, responsible for networking both on and off-line. You'll see me popping up at as many events as ever, but I've handed over the day-to-day duties of managing the NEO Network to our latest recruit, Sigrid Barany.

Sigrid is Swedish and like many of us in the industry, her background is quite eclectic. She's been involved in organising events for such august bodies as the Tolkein Society in Uppsala, Sweden and in numerous other societies and associations. Sigrid is happiest when she's organising and creating order out of chaos and Sarah already doesn't know what she did without her!

I know you will welcome Sigrid as heartily as you welcomed me just 7 short months ago, and will send her all your news and updates.

You can contact Sigrid by email: sigrid_AT_neoireland.com (replace the _AT_ with an @ symbol) or by phone on 01 - 230 3548

Professional Placements

As some of you may know, for nearly all of our Neo Ireland events, we use the help of students from the Event Management course in DIT. Some of this years third year students in particular have been an essential part of our team - Julie Ann Mullane and Claire Brady to be specific. The third years start their professional placement in early February 2008 for minimum 14 weeks. The professional placement is designed to give the students the opportunity to actively participate in the events industry in a meaninful way. They look like a happy bunch too!

So to add one of these little gems to your team, contact Stephanie Bourke (Placement Officer at DIT) on 01-4024353 or e-mail stephanie.bourke_AT_dit.ie (replace the _AT_ with an @ symbol)

Absolutely Fabulous? Events as a Career

And talking of students, degrees and Events as a Career, our second Absolutely Fabulous? Events as a Career seminar is taking place on the 10th of December, also in the Vaults IFSC. It's designed for students of events management courses to hear how several people involved in the industry came to be working in it. Booking is now open at the seminar site.
