Paul gets a night out at Lillie’s Bordello

On Thursday October 18th Lillie’s Bordello played host to the showcase of Lillie’s as an events venue. It was set to be an amazing event as passersby whispered about those standing on the red carpet waiting to enter the exclusive club. I could tell that Áine O’Mahony and her team had put on an excellent spread before I even entered the door.

“A venue for hire on Grafton Street with capacity for 600?” That’s the question posed by the invitation and answered by Lillie’s. Not only one, but three venues to suit your needs, and if the five star service I received is anything to go by Lillie’s would prove to be the perfect location for any event.

The Friends Band

The Friends Band (Bree Harris, Robbie Overson and Paul Fairclough)

Entering via the Round Bar and Lounge I was greeted by the events team who were more than happy to guide me through to the Long Room where the plush furnishings, chandeliers and leather all continued to maintain the sheer opulence. The Friends Band (Bree Harris, Robbie Overson and Paul Fairclough) played to the crowd in the Round Bar while the resident DJ later facilitated those with itchy feet on the Long Room dance floor.

It was on up to the Library which is the exclusive members’ room; where style guru Cathy O’Connor divulged some of her top tips to the ladies (and some curious men) in attendance. Queues formed to attend the fifteen minute inspiration sessions.

The in house caterers put on an amazing spread that seemed to be endless. From chicken legs, mini hot-dogs, potatoes in three varieties and salad not a soul left hungry. I’m told they’ll put on the same spread for any event you wish – but only if you invite me!

I’m expecting to be busy over the next couple of months, since you all be simply fabricating events to attend Lillie’s – invites to paul_at_eventznet.ie (swap _at_ with the @ symbol).

A Real Diamond... Sarah Goes to the Clarion Hotel IFSC

We love the Clarion Hotel IFSC, so even if their invitation to the re-launch of this excellent venue had not been so enticing, we'd have gone along. It was most enticing, however: an invitation to join the Clarion team in a celebration (champagne and cocktails, tantalising Asian & European food) and have the chance to win a 1.17 carat Bellataire Diamond.

As our esteemed leader Bertie Ahern was rumoured to be the special guest, the guys thought it only appropriate that I go along. Alright, you've outed me, I'm a huge Bertie fan and I paid them to let me be the one to go. As it turned out I missed him, but he did get his photo taken with a number of other groupies.

This actually was one of the most professionally organised events I've been to in a long time. There are many of us who can learn from Carol, Honor and the team at the Clarion IFSC. It ticked all the boxes – really well organised and executed invitations, easy to spot the benefits of attending, a sense of exclusivity, a strong sense that you would be looked after on the night, and something a little bit different for a Wednesday evening.

Bertie Ahern with Carol Byrne, Sales & Marketing Manager, Clarion Hotel Group, the fire eaters and the Bertie and Barry show began...
Once in there, the buzz was massive. The entire place was jammed with people – from ordinary Jill soaps like me to celebrities like the aforementioned Bertie and the irrepressible Barry Egan and the equally irrepressible Clyde Carroll from Chambers Ireland (and NEO Ireland, I hasten to add). Emma Kytzia (NEO Ireland founder member) of the National College of Ireland was there also, hoping she would be the one to win the Bellataire Diamond. She didn't win the diamond, but she doesn't really need it as she has plenty of other best friends...

I wasn't able to enjoy the cocktails and champagne unfortunately (driving and also had my first random breath test on my way home – so lucky I didn't risk it) but the nibbles were just divine. I was even tempted by the dessert trolley (or should that be double decker), scrumptious and enormously beautiful to look at. The Clarion kitchen really knows how to deliver a good spread. Took a look at the Santé Médispa – an ocean of calm with the most amazing of gadgets – you can even get a DNA test done there!

The new conference facilities in the Clarion IFSC are well worth checking out, Honor Byrne will be delighted to show you around. The whole re-modelling of the Clarion (which cost an estimated 13 Million Euros) has lifted what was already a great venue into a really smart and even, dare I say it, dazzling venue in the heart of the IFSC. And you couldn't get a better team to look after you either.

Conor Gets to Go to the PA of the Year Awards

When we were exhibiting at the RDS for the Marketing Expo, I got to meet Sandra Cummins of Pa-assist.ie, a fantastic resource for personal assistants throughout Ireland. Sandra and I were chatting about the PA of the year awards and of course I managed to blag myself an invite... :)

This was an amazing event. Held in FIRE Restaurant on Thursday 8th November it really changed my impression of how vital the role of a PA can be within a company. I never realised how much they actually did, and this event is a great way to reward them for all the great work that they do.

The food and the setting was simply superb and the free munchies vouchers and Ice Hotel stays at every place setting were a fantastic way to kick start the afternoon.

Each person had a pink envelope with which to donate any amount of money to Barretstown, which was the chosen charity. It was heartening to see that nearly everyone in the room handed one up.

Imagine my surprise when NEO member Fiona O'Neill from VHI was called out as a winner for the Medical & Pharmaceutical category. I've talked with Fiona a few times over the phone and it was great to put a face to the name. Congratulations again Fiona, hope to see you at the debate on the 10th December (Neo's big christmas debate).

A huge congratulations to Sandra and everyone in pa-assist.ie on the awards, they were fantastic. And Marty Whelan is one of the best MC's I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. Roll on next years awards! Congratulations to all the winners and those who were awarded with a "Highly Commended" tribute.

Just as I was finishing off this e-zine I got a really lovely e-mail from Barretstown thanking everyone for their contribution at the awards.

"On behalf of Barretstown, thank you so much for your support at the recent PA-Assist Awards. I wanted to let you know that you donated a fantastic €4,111 on the day, ensuring that more children with cancer and serious illnesses will be able to take part in Barretstown's life changing programmes".

I must say that this e-mail has cheered me up significantly. I am actually wearing a hat today (ozzie style from Melbourne) and I must take it off to everyone in pa-assist.ie. Not only have you recognised the vital role that a PA plays within a company, but you've also managed to facilitate such a fantastic contribution towards a very worthy charity.
